Respiratory Therapist
Respiratory therapists are there to help anyone who has suffered from asthma, pneumonia, or just had trouble with their lungs and breathing capacity. They help patients with improving lung capacity and breathing issues. Certification is available through an examination. Except that all respiratory therapists are required to be licensed. Both an associate’s degree and a bachelor’s degree are available for respiratory therapy.
Toxicologist
Toxicologists study and observe multiple types of poisons, chemicals, and toxins. Their job is most research-based rather than guiding patients, however, when they do guide patients it is usually people who have overdosed or have been exposed to something toxic through their water supply. Toxicology requires a science degree with an understanding of biology and chemistry.
User Experience (UX) Designer
UX designers fix annoying platforms or badly developed websites/apps. They create better-designed platforms so users can easily access the website. Computer skills, art skills, and a basic understanding of delivering according to the customers’ needs are needed. Engineering, media, and design backgrounds can be useful in this field but however, are not necessarily or entirely needed.
Phlebotomist
Phlebotomist, although an unusual name, draw blood and label vials while sending them in for analysis. This job is definitely not for someone who is afraid of needles. Generally, phlebotomists don’t require much experience or education except a phlebotomy program which takes about a year to complete.
Fire Investigator
Fire investigators track down the initial cause of the fire and what or who started it. They examine the building and evidence to come to a conclusion. This job usually requires you to go through a fire investigator training program. Multiple sources of education/experience are available with training programs, courses, and an MSc.
Special Effects (SFX) Makeup Artist
SFX makeup artists are makeup artists who use makeup to transform the person appearance-wise. For example making an actor look sick, older, younger etc is all an SFX makeup artist’s job. They change the person’s appearance, usually for television or shows. Often transforming actresses or actors. They can either be self-taught or take courses to build their skills, however, their work is often contract to contract meaning they can only do one job at a time.
Genetic Counselor
Genetic counselor’s help people understand and assess the risks for inherited conditions. For example, a lot of the time cousin marriages lead to genetic conditions with the child being at a greater risk. They help gather information and research to help the patient understand their conditions and how to manage them. Genetic counselors require a master’s degree and depending on where they live may require certification to practice.
