Law as a Career in Pakistan

Legal cases that are dealt with in courts with a great deal of importance require a licensed professional to advise and represent a specific party in legal matters. Law is typically a three-year undergraduate degree also known as LLB (Bachelor of Law) in Pakistan. Law is a very diverse career with many opportunities available for individuals. A law degree can also be used as a foundation for other careers.

TYPES OF LAW
Lawyers can either be general practitioners who take any kind of case or they can specialize in a certain type of law. As mentioned before, law is a very diverse career and LLB subjects have various options for an individual to pick and choose from, for example, criminal law, environmental laws, income tax ordinance, etc.

SALARY
Lawyers are paid for their work in many ways and depending on their specialization and how they choose to carry out their work and take in cases the ways they will be paid will differ. Lawyers who practice privately can take fees on an hourly basis. Another way of payment may be a contingency fee which is when a client wins their case and receives financial compensation, the lawyer gets a certain percentage of said money. Instead of getting paid in installments or on an hourly basis, a lawyer can also receive a lump sum payment in which the lawyer receives all the money at once.

Many countries require that whichever client loses the case, they are required to pay financial compensation to the winner of the case to make up for the money and time spent on hiring a lawyer and other legal payments. Other lawyers who may work directly under the government are more likely to have a fixed rate of pay and earn a regular and stable annual salary.

Many lawyers also tend to fight cases pro-bono which means for the public good. In this circumstance, professional lawyers often tend to fight cases at a lower price or for free for the betterment of the public. The prices lawyers charge depend on how skilled and experienced they are and there is no fixed rate of earning. Many lawyers often have to spend the first few years of their career building up their reputation before they can fully depend on practicing law as their only source of earning.
